Till We Have Faces and Setting
I believe that setting was of greatest concern for Lewis in
Till We Have Faces. This is because it was of great concern for the people who
created the myth in ancient Greece. They had to live with the natural world
around them much more than the modern man does, so they could not ignore it
like we can. The mountain that attracted Psyche scared Orual. It shows how we
see in nature what we want. Some see gods and some see demons, some even see
nothing but rocks. This divide between Orual and Psyche makes them completely
different people. What one sees in the world around them, what they perceive in
it, can define who they are in their interaction with others. Psyche was
elevated by nature because she submitted to it, while Orual sat alone on her
throne.
