This journal is yet another reflection of a thought that I had in class one time during the lecture. Could it be that the specific thirst is the person's sole project? We can know it was their sole project, but if there is a lineup of projects, the bliss could be fleeting or nonexistent.
This is essentially the Young Life need talk, but more in depth and not for high schoolers, for Christians who are farther along in their walk. And struggling with joy. In Lewis' Surprised By Joy, we see a similar theme. There is a sole thirst present inside of each human being. That thirst is so big and so deep; the human soul is so parched that it can only possibly be quenched by a god. There is a God sized hole in every person's heart.
Could this explain why my friend at JMU attempted at a relationship with Christ, but then soon after got dragged into her life of sin once more? Is this the reason that worldly luster can actually hold its shine if viewed in the right way? To seek God is the heart's true ultimate desire, but the sin of the world makes us think that other things can compete. The distraction of the other things is what nullifies the joy provided by God. Like the story in the Bible of Peter walking on water, the storm distracts us and subsequently lessens our faith.
