J.C. Comeau #14, Telling Our Own Story

One of the primary assignments for class was to write our own short story.  We were supposed to jump off of the world that Lewis created in the Narnia series to shine light on an untold story within.  As we wrote, it was interesting to see the different ways that students went about completing the assignment.  Some sought to tell the story of a character who had not been introduced yet, others continued to explore the history of established characters, and some introduced themselves into the narrative.  Lewis stories encouraged each of us to look at these stories in different ways.  We all had our own take on the story; our own way of furthering our experience and relationship with the text.  In this way, I think Lewis succeeded in creating a world that others want to be a part of.  Not only did each of us read his books, we each engaged with his work, actively creating characters and stories of our own that meshed with the world of Lewis.  Each of our takes on the story was unique, but each one spoke to our individual relationship with Lewis and the text.  An author who inspires others to be authors, to follow in his path, is a great author indeed.
