Inquiry into the philosophy of Derrida
In class we discussed Jacques Derrida and his belief that
language has always been there, since before we were born. It is not something
we create, but something in us. This is interesting because it makes me wonder
if words have any meaning without a reader. If I wrote a book tomorrow and the
next day the sun went out and no one could see or read, would my story have any
less importance? It might have none. It might even mean that the story did have
meaning in a past world, lost with the light of the sun. Or, perhaps it would
be good for starting a fire.
