Outside Reading #1 Screw tape Letters- Gradual Discent
The Screw Tape Letters is one of my favorite works by Lewis. This book has some of the most interesting insight as to how Satan and his workers try and get Christians to fall into a pattern of sin. A quote that struck me was “Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one--the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts,...Your affectionate uncle, Screwtape.” Screwtape, who has been doing his job much longer that his much younger nephew, knows from experience that humans will not make radical choices all at once to fall into a pattern of sin, but rather will allow bit by bit to fall deeper and deeper into sin. This is a scary thought and makes me pause and look at my life to see if there is even the slightest area in my life that is slipping in that direction.
