Outside Reading #3 The Great Divorce- One True Good
The great divorce in one of Lewis's classics. One of my favorite lines from the book is “There is but one good; that is God. Everything else is good when it looks to Him and bad when it turns from Him.” So many times we spend our times doing things that are good like working or spending time with friends or taking a walk in the mountains. Lewis is arguing that while all of these things are good, the only reason that they are good is because they are looking to God. All Good things come from God. But all good things can look away from God and turn to bad. I can see this in myself. When I spend time with God and have my face looking towards him, I begin to do good things and become more selfless. When I do not spend time with him, I begin to become self-centered and do bad things in the name of advancing myself.
