This book had some very intense scenes. For me, the scene where Orual goes to Bardia's wife, Ansit, after his death was one that held in my mind. In the book, I thought it was very obvious that Orual had a love towards Bardia. What I found most shocking in this scene was where Orual unveils herself momentarily to Ansit. It was the first time Orual had ever taken off her vail for one thing and she was in the middle of a situation I cannot imagine anyone wishing to fall into one day. What really took over my surprise was Ansits response. Orual shouts at her asking who could love a face such as hers and Ansit makes no recognition of what she looks like at all. Instead she sees Orual hiding behind the queen. Orual who was incredibly jealous of Ansit's marriage with Bardia, Orual whom everyone she ever truly loved was torn away form her. Immediately Ansit weeps. Again, not because of Orual's appearance but because she then understands the girl behind the mask, the one just as effected by Bardia's death as her. I thought it was a beautiful and powerful scene for the book. In regards to what Orual was told by Eros, I think it is here where Orual resembles the emotions of Phyche as she looses her husband. It is here were I see Orual's buildup, everything she has hidden and rejected, begin to crack.
