This is perfect! I love that you encourage us to do outside reading because I think that it really does contribute to what we take away from the class.
I have been reading a book by Francine Rivers called Lineage of Grace. This book has pulled five women from the Bible that are in the ancestral lineage leading to Jesus and almost takes a magnifying glass to their stories in the Bible. Rivers creates a biblically inspired fiction for each of these stories that is actually backed up with a copious amount of Bible history and cultural insight. For example, in the story of Rahab, Rivers inserts dialogue and a deeper flowing interaction between the characters in order to carry a well developed plot.
There is a great similarity that I have noticed between Lewis' works and Francine Rivers' The Lineage of Grace. Both are fiction. Obviously. However, both are fiction in the sense that they have taken an ultimate truth and ran with it on a storytelling basis. Where Rivers' fiction is more central to the Bible, both are significant foreshadowings of the gospel.
