Out of the Silent Planet
Out of the Silent Planet was my favorite book
in the Space Trilogy. I was interested most by the attitudes of the natives of
Malacandra. They all seemed to just have an understanding of their role in the
world, with no questions asked. They were just content. It is interesting to
think of this on our planet, but I believe Lewis’ point is that we should live
in this type of harmony. Lewis, living in a time more destructive than most,
and close to home, was certainly horrified by the state of the world he found
himself in. If I were as smart as him, I would have written about living
harmoniously too!
