Sam Atkinson, Out of the Silent Planet discussion

I remember covering the concept of eugenics in our discussion of this novel. I think one thing that is very intentional about this novel is its criticism over the events of the first half of the 20th century. I think he makes a very steep criticism over the actions of many countries, even anglo-saxon dominated ones and their views of race, gender, and society. Primarily, he is examining the consequences of such views, including violent deaths of many and the systemic repressing of many more. Weston represents this moral deprivation and this is most certainly very intentional. I think there is a spiritual layer to this in his discussion in this novel, but I feel as though it is less obvious in this novel than it is in Narnia.
