James Carlson #4: The Space Trilogy
The idea of space being an ocean of pure life
rather than a vacant space of desolation really resonated with me. When ransom
rockets through space with Weston and Devine within a spaceship in Lewis’s
novel Out of the Silent Planet, this
observation reflected a concept of the universe that life is not a singular
occurrence but, rather, a pervasive element of the cosmos. Life exists beyond
humanity and the earth in general. With the ceaseless and limitless occurrences
of life, the Universe becomes a far more complicated endeavor for humanity.
Life outside of the human perspective undermines the hubris of human elitism.
