Sam Atkinson, House of Leaves

First, if you haven't gotten the chance, read House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, It is easily one of the best pieces of fiction to come out in the past decade. I remember at the beginning of this year when we were discussing the nature of the unknown and whether it is good or evil, this book popped into my head. This book discusses this unknowing and the fear of it. Any conflict that is established in this book is one surrounding something without explanation, something without a perceivable description. That feeling that someone is watching you, that there is something behind you always that you can never see, that human instinct that we are not alone in the darkness; this is something the novel does a great deal of exploring of. And very similar to Narnia, it centers on exploring a new world which arises in a closet.
